The Founders Golf Club recently hosted the Local Qualifier for the 2018 Men’s U.S. Open on our challenging, yet rewarding, Robert Trent Jones Jr. golf course in beautiful Sarasota FL.
During the day, 73 players competed to move on to the a sectional qualifier to be held later this month with a chance to head to the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y. for the 118th U.S. Open on June 14, 2018 through June 17, 2018. One of the golfers was The Founders Golf Club’s member and medalist for the event, Sebastian Mark, who broke the course record on April 27, 2018 with 63 and now holds his third local course record.
The Founders Golf Club is one of 112 sites in 45 states to hold qualifying rounds for both amateurs and professionals. To be eligible, players must have a Handicap Index® not exceeding 1.4, or be a professional. Players who advance will move on to the second qualifying round, to be held over 36 holes at 12 sites.
The Founders Club’s Robert Trent Jones Jr. course is a 7,094 yard course with a rating of 74.4 and a slope of 143. Our members are challenged at every hole, especially around the greens where the fairways are narrow. The signature Robert Trent Jones, Jr. course's driving range features a 32-tee range and additional areas for members and guests to use on the practice end and the teaching end. The Founders Golf Club’s practice and training facilities consists of two putting greens, a short game area, and state-of-the-art TrackMan radar technology through the Florida Golf Performance Center. The Founders Golf Club Learning Center is also equipped with FlightScope for custom fitting and best quality instruction by our PGA Professionals. Ann McClure, The Founders Club's Head Golf Professional, and First Assistant Joel Rasho are also available to assist members and residents with their game, utilizing their more than 25 years’ experience in the field.
